Welcome to Eureka Falls, a turn of the century New England mill town -- home to the 1900’s era level of Past/Present.
When you play the Past/Present game you are quickly immersed in a fully detailed historical universe that is designed to provide a learning environment rich with teachable moments. This includes not only the physical world, with historically accurate modeling, but a colorful social world as well, with characters that reflect a range of different class and personality types, political persuasions, and ethical standards.
Eureka Falls is home to Anna Caruso, a young weaver at the Boylston Mill, who is struggling to help support her mother and three brothers at a time when labor unrest and economic troubles threaten her job security. As Anna, you’ll explore a detailed, 3-D virtual world, and help her navigate through these difficult times.

Every morning, as Anna goes off to work at the mill, she comes in contact with a variety of townspeople, including Amadeo, a vegetable seller and union sympathizer, who tells her about the growing labor movement; Franz, the mill’s avuncular night watchman, who tells her about the financial pinch the mill owners are in; Moran, an amoral policeman; and Anna’s best friend Luisa. Anna’s job – represented by a mini-game at the heart of the prototype – calls for her to keep four weaving machines running perfectly during a ten-hour shift. If she does well, she’ll be able to purchase enough food for her family and pay the rent. Despite working hard, Anna is increasingly unable to make ends meet, and must decide whether to go on strike when Luisa is injured at work, even though she could put her family’s economic situation in jeopardy.
Along the way, there are mysteries to solve, secret missions to undertake, food to buy, and surprises to behold…and it all can be experienced by playing Past/Present.
